Shane Bieber Has Started Out 2-0 With A 0.00 ERA And 20 Strikeouts.....And Is Now Out For The Season Needing Tommy John Surgery
So I blogged this on Thursday because Shane Bieber just finished his second start of the season and turned in this scorecard to the clubhouse:
….fast forward three days and we've got perhaps the worst unexpected gut punch I've ever been hit with in my entire life. I'm sitting here on my couch, enjoying a morning coffee, scrolling through Twitter, when I had to spit the drink out. What the fuck did I just read….
This makes me sick to my stomach. First I'm going to puke because our Ace looked like he was finally back. Velo up, carving up batters, Cy Young form…..as I mentioned. And now I see the Klemmers of the world are trying to say that I jinxed Shane Bieber and you can join that bandwagon if you want, but the fact of the matter is I was excited about my baseball team that had an over/under of 79.5 wins jumping out of the gates hot and seeing our once Cy Young award winning pitcher look lights out again. 0.00 ERA and 20 strikeouts. Now he's done for the season. FUCK.
….and the worst part is, the Guardians looked really, really good to start the season in their 6-2 start (with the White Sox coming to town on Monday). I hate to be like this, but it seems like we've been over-performing thus far, and now losing our Ace makes me feel like…..does this even matter? Odds were we probably weren't going to keep up this play the entire season, and those odds just took a huge hit with this news. Plus, odds were if we did dip off, we were going to trade Bieber by the deadline and at least get some prospects back. That's the other thing that simply blows about this news. He's on a 1-year deal and is an unrestricted free agent in 2025. We won't get his services as a pitcher or as trade bait. This is the worst news I could ever imagine coming across my desk on this now gloomy Saturday morning…..
Can we salvage this? Who can we bring in to be our Ace? Is Joe Flacco available?
**Can he still win the Cy Young? Find me a starting pitcher in September who is undefeated with multiple wins and a 0.00 ERA and I'll concede he shouldn't win.
